Central Marin Competitive Soccer Club
Notable Program Changes for 2011Ending the Parent/Coach Model for Silver/Bronze Teams As a direct result of feedback from parents, last season we began to phase out the “parent/coach” model of a professional trainer during the practices and a parent coach for games. Last season Central Marin instituted a program were we used a hybrid training system between the gold and silver model were the trainer/coach attended many games as well as all practices and the parent/coach had more of an assistant coach role. The full time trainer/coach for Silver teams met with such positive response that we are instituting it for all teams beginning this coming 2011 season. This does add to team expenses, but is considered an overall better format. Creation of U10/U11 Player Pools One of the most difficult parts of the Competitive program is identifying player skill levels in the player’s early years. Though talent is often apparent, young players thrive in different environments, some doing well in tryout formats and others show stronger in practices and games. Players also develop at different rates, with some thriving on the additional technical training. It is difficult, in the tryout format, to make all the selections at the appropriate levels of skill and dedication. Thus, Central Marin is instituting Player Pools for U10 and U11 boys and girls teams. At tryouts the coaches will select the top “pool” of players (enough players for 2-3 teams depending on ability and the number of players trying out, for a position with the Central Marin Club. They will begin training in spring for one month in April/May. The teams, Gold, Silver 1 and Silver II, will then be selected. However, rather than separating the teams training sessions the players will continue to train together as a pool, with some separate team specific training and many integrated training sessions. In this way the players share trainer/coaches and all get equivalent training; as players’ abilities develop they may also be moved from one team to another to gain confidence or test their skills at a higher level. Though minimal movement is anticipated the goal is to have the players develop over time and play at the appropriate level with similarly skilled players. This pool concept will also help to keep costs down with less field costs, while multiple trainers will be present. "On Equal Footing" Financial Aid Program Central Marin Soccer Club’s intent is to not deny any player the opportunity to play due to the expense of our program. There may be team and individual fund raising efforts, which will vary by team and age group. The Central Marin Club has a financial aid program for teams to support their players. Financial aid may be requested and there is a formal, yet user-friendly application process. Scholarships levels may vary depending on numbers of applications and need, but generally range from $300 to $500 and there typically may be 1 to 3 scholarship players per team.
