Central Marin Soccer League
The Central Marin Soccer League (of which Central Marin Competitive Soccer Club is but one club in the greater league"umbrella" structure) has approximately 2,500 players, bringing soccer to as many children as desire to play in the greater central Marin area. Marin FC is the highest level of competitive soccer in Marin and draws players from Novator to Tiburon and allows players from outside of the area. The Central Marin Competitive Soccer Club (or Central Marin Soccer Club for short) provides competitive soccer for ages U10 through U13 Gold division level, and U10 to U19 for the Silver/Bronze division levels. The foundation of the competitive programs are the three recreational clubs from Ross Valley (RVSC), San Rafael (SRYSL) and north San Rafael/Terra Linda areas (DYSA). These three clubs encourage their high-skilled players with a desire to play at a more competitive level to tryout and play in the CMSC program. CMSC competitive teams are composed of some of the best players and coaches from North Bay Area and its surrounding communities. The coaches, trainers, players and their parents are dedicated to the development of good soccer technique and tactics, good sportsmanship, hard work, meeting new people, expanding their soccer experience and having fun. Program Information Central Marin Soccer Club offers various levels of league and tournament play. The length of season, and program participation costs varies between each level. The Gold Division Program for U10–U13 Boys and Girls The Gold Program (formerly known as Division 1) is designed to develop players who possess a passion for the game of soccer and who endeavor to compete at the highest possible level. We strive to create a professional environment for our student athletes to achieve their maximum potential as measured ultimately by acceptance onto high school, collegiate, Olympic Development Programs (ODP), Player Development Program (PDP) and National soccer teams.
Marin FC: The Premier/Gold Division Program for U14–U18 Boys and Girls At the age groups of U14 and above, the tryouts and teams are run by the Marin Football Club, or Marin FC. The purpose of MFC is to serve the needs of Gold Program U14 through under U18 players, families and teams on a county-wide basis. At present, the following clubs participate and feed into the Marin FC: Central Marin Competitive Soccer Club, Mill Valley Youth Soccer League, Tiburon Peninsula Youth Soccer League, and West Marin Youth Soccer League. Marin FC teams are first formed at the U14 age level. Further, participating leagues are encouraged to adhere to the highest standards of excellence in coaching and player development for U10 to U13 Gold Division to ensure an adequate pool of players coming into MFC at the U14 and above level.
The Silver & Bronze Division Programs for U10-U19 Boys and Girls The Silver & Bronze Division program's (formerly known as Division 3) focus is to provide a select-level soccer experience for players interested in a more competitive environment than traditional recreation or "House League" programs. The program provides high-quality development in an affordable, community-based environment. The goal of this division is both competition and player development. Silver & Bronze Division is a competitive level where coaches select teams in a draft following the tryouts and selection of the Gold Division teams. The Silver/Bronze Division is commonly referred to as “Traveling House” because competition includes games played outside the League in addition to regular League games. These teams play a substantially greater number of games than “House League” programs and, like the Gold Division program, typically practice 2 to 3 times per week. The training sessions (practices) are run by professional trainers, and the weekend and tournament games are run by qualified parent coaches. In this manner, the overall cost is less than the Gold Program, with most of the cost savings is due to not paying a professional trainer/coach during weekend games. The cost averages $850 (U10-U19) per player per year, however there may be team and individual fund raising efforts (which will vary by team and age group). Silver & Bronze Division players can expect a significant commitment of time, particularly in the period from July through early November. Practice and informal team activities may begin after teams are formed, with most teams beginning practice in June or July. In addition, some teams may attend a week-long team "mini-camp" in July. League play begins in September, and games can be held on both Saturdays and Sundays during the season. The third weekend of the month in August, September and October are reserved for tournament play, and teams typically enter three or four weekend tournaments during a season. U8/U9 Academy The Academy represents Central Marin's highest level of play and training for this age group and is for players with above average ability. Emphasis is on developing soccer skills and enjoyment of the game, which will be the foundation for future soccer success. Tryouts are fun and instructional. The Academy Program aims to provide young players with high quality training and an expanded playing schedule without the same costs and travel commitments associated with Select Programs. The program is designed for kids who love soccer, and who are committed to developing their talents.
