NorCal Premier Fall League Play FAQ

(This FAQ is updated frequently...)

What are the TBD dates on the schedule?

The TBD notation on your schedule indicates a date that needs to be agreed upon by both teams. The process is initiated by the Home Team reserving field space/time slot(s), then contacting the visiting team with available dates/times. Once a mutually agreed upon date and time is reached, the schedule is entered and confirmed on the NorCal site. There is often a date by which the TBD games need to be completed, so check your league flight notes on the NorCal site.

Do I need to schedule a home TBD game?

Yes, you need to schedule all games with a TBD by the date suggested.  In most case this date is 10/11 0r 10/25 depending on the number of teams in your playing division. Please look at your "playing notes" for more details.  Playing notes can be found by clicking on your the league link above your detailed game schedule on the Norcal website. ie "League Boys u12 Gold"  Click there and then scroll down to where the games are listed for the entire region 5.  Right above all these games there will be a link called playing notes.  If you click on this it will give you the explicit directions for each playing format and when your games need to be completed by.   Additionally, Colleen Bertiglia detailed the playing formats for all Central Marin teams.  If you did not receive this email, please click here to review all age groups and playing formats. (Jeff, we should have a link to this)  You have all the emails I sent - this would be good to post.

Why does the schedule list dates of play, but no time or locations?

It is the responsibility of the Home Team to secure the time and field for the scheduled game. Home Teams reach out to the visiting team with available times and await confirmation. Each team roughly plays half of their league games home and half away, so this results in ~5 games to be fielded and scheduled for league play.

It's raining outside - who do I call to make sure the game is on?

If it is a home game it is your responsibility to call the field hotline and make sure the field is still open/playable. If it is an away game, please contact the opposing manager for more info about field status. In general, turf fields remain open throughout all but the most severe torrential downpours (but that is not to be assumed - check anyways!)

Rain Hotline Numbers

My league flight has less than 9 other opponents, how do we achieve the goal of a 9 or 10 game league schedule?

The goal of NorCal league play is that each team in each league flight will play 10 league games. The league champion is determined by the team with the most points after completing league play.

The actual format and number of league games will depend on how many teams are in your league play group. The perfect number to hit 10 games is a league of 6 teams (5 opponents for each team), so each team plays every other team 2x for a total of 10 games.

However, each league group has a different number of teams (depending on the number of teams competing). As always, read your flight notes posted in your league schedule...but in general:

5 teams - After a double round robin of 8 games, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams will play a two game round robin with points going forward. The rotation will be with the first team the home team. After 10 games the team with the most points is the League Champion.

6 teams - double round robin of 5 games, for a 10 game league season.

7 teams - 7 teams will play a single round robin of 6 games; and then the first 3 teams will play a second round robin of 2 games with the points moving forward. The team with the most points after 9 games will be the League Champion.

8 teams - Teams play a single round of 7 games, then a second round robin of 3 games based on seeding (order of ranking after first 7 game round). Team with most points after 10 games is the league champion.

9 teams - 9 teams play a round robin of 8 games. The top 3 teams with the most points after 8 games will play a second round robin of 2 games among themselves with the points carrying forward. The 4th to 6th and the 7th to 9th place teams will play a similar 2 game round robin.

10 teams - 10 teams play a round robin of 9 games. The team with the most points after 9 games is the League Champion.

11 teams - 11 teams play a round robin of 10 games. The team with the most points after 10 games is the League Champion. The odd number of teams causes a bye each week increasing the need for tbd game.

Do I have to pay the refs for league home games?

You do not need to handle the payment of any refs for any league game. (The league handles this.)  However, If it is a Norcal cup game, you will need to pay your refs after the game.  The cost for a center ref for U9-U12 is $30 and $17.50 each for 2 AR's.; U13-14 is $40 for the Center ref and AR fees are $20 each. U15 and above is $50 for center ref and $25 each for both AR.

Who do we contact to reserve field space?

Contact Lynetta Matteo to secure your home field locations and times.
